The bad news is that I haven’t updated in over a month now.
The good news is that I have been quite busy playing wargames with some folks, and that’s where my free time has gone. Of course, it does no good to have this blog sit here if I don’t actually use it, so I am going to try to make an effort to update it more regularly.
For the record, I am currently playing:
- Age of Rifles: Had a mirrored set of scenarios going on the Battle of Eutaw Springs. I surrendered one, and am about to lose the other quite resoundingly. (I’m not very good at this game.)
- Campaign 1776: Another version of the Battle of Eutaw Springs that I am losing. However, I am losing this one in a different way than the other two. I am playing this one as a “maneuver battle” against one of my team-mates in the Colonial Campaign’s Club; he is teaching me a lot. It’s amazing how much you learn by losing!
- Fulda Gap ’85: Had a game going in this one, but found out that there is a problem with the multiplayer mechanics that needs to be patched. I drew one game against my opponent (the problem affected us both equally), and we put a second game on hold when it was clear that there was indeed a problem.
- Danube Front ’85: Just picked this one up over the holidays; playing another small scenario, but the “biggest” one as far as units go that I’ve had to manage (a couple divisions). Good stuff, still too early to tell how I’m doing.
I’m also in the middle of a campaign in Battle for Wesnoth, but I haven’t done much with that recently (that tends to be my “lunch break” game, and I’ve been tied up with other stuff at work).
Since I don’t want to see this “blog” wither away into the dismal realms of abandonment, I resolve (ick) to keep closer records over either a small PBEM scenario (if I start a new one soon), or at least another one against the AI of a game. My wanting to write stuff down was to be an exercise in situational awareness and thinking things through, instead of just reacting to what I see on the screen… so hopefully I’ll be able to continue soon.
