New Year, New Content
The bad news is that I haven’t updated in over a month now.
The good news is that I have been quite busy playing wargames with some folks, and that’s where my free time has gone. Of course, it does no good to have this blog sit here if I don’t actually use it, so I am going to try to make an effort to update it more regularly. (more…)
Images Again
Looks like my original image host is back online now.
Hm… guess that means I should post some actual content now…. :)
New Image Hosting Test
BayImg, the site I’ve used for hosting images for this blog, has been unreliable lately. Today, it seems to be offline completely. Going to post an image to a couple different hosting sites here, to see if one works better than the other. Enjoy! (more…)
Fulda Gap ’85 — Campaign?
Went to begin one of the campaigns in FG85 last night, only to discover that a “campaign” in this game seems to be just another word for “really, really, really big scenario with a boatload of turns and units”. Whereas I was expecting a collection of smaller scenarios that follow some sort of narrative progression depending on choices the player makes, I guess the idea of a campaign in this game is simply a larger-scale battle where you may have several smaller “scenarios” going on at once and have to coordinate them all.
After aimlessly scrolling around the map for a few minutes, I decided it would be perhaps better if I kept to some smaller scenarios until I get a better handle on the gameplay. Thus, I may attempt to do another turn-by-turn narrative in the near future.
Time Flies
Wow, almost a month since my last post. You’d think that I actually have other stuff to do, or something.
Here’s what’s been going on in the wargame front: (more…)
Grunts
Since I never have enough to do, I thought I’d see if I could come up with a quick and easy set of miniature wargame rules for use with the little green plastic army men (instead of the $$$ miniatures). This will be an ongoing project, not necessarily something I’ll blog about, but all the info will be able to be viewed here:

If tabletop wargaming is at all of interest, keep an eye on that page for the latest progress.
Updates
Still here, still gaming a bit. I have been playing my “training” game for the CCC in Campaign 1776, doing a PBEM game in Age of Rifles, and playing some solo Battle for Wesnoth. Other than Wesnoth, I have been mainly concentrating on learning the mechanics of the game, since they are more intricate than Sons of Liberty. Not much new in the way of strategy/tactics yet, but stay tuned — I’m still very much interested in keeping track. Following are some details about the games I’m involved in, for those who are interested.
Testing Screenshots
Okay, so Sons of Liberty runs at a very low resolution by default. Thus, the screen images fit nicely into the blog template. However, I’ve started playing some more modern-ish games, and have found that the bigger screenshots don’t fit as well.
I am therefore experimenting with a way to post a smaller image inline, with the ability to click on it for the full-sized image. See a couple examples after the break: (more…)
Bunker Hill – Post-mortem Review
Okay, so I lost my first battle. I neglected to get any screen captures of the “endgame” status, but essentially it went down as a Major American Victory. Despite the short scenario length and relatively few units to work with, I am happy to report that there are some things I’ve learned that I’ll be careful about next time. (more…)
